Confirmation: this Sacrament completes the gifts of the Holy Spirit, first given to us at Baptism, and strengthens them so that we may witness for Christ to a world that needs Him so desperately. Through receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are empowered to carry out our obligation to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.
Basic Requirements for the Reception of Confirmation: (Code of Cannon Law 879-896)
- Have a desire to receive the sacrament.
- Are living in a state of grace. ( Living in a state of grace involves more than just avoiding sin; it means actively seeking God's will and growing in holiness through prayer, sacraments, and good works. Attending Mass every Sunday in addition to all Holy Days of Obligation and Seeking absolution through the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly attribute to living life in a state of grace.)
- Are willing to renew their baptismal promises.
- Have been formed and understand what they are seeking in the sacrament.
- Accept the call to discipleship.

Important Information for Confirmation 2026:
Letter from Ms. Kelly-
I can't believe that we are less than 2 weeks away from Confirmation! This email contains important information about your child's upcoming Confirmation. Please read through it carefully and if you have any questions reach out.
MANDATORY Confirmation Rehearsal will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 10am-2pm. Confirmation sponsors are required to attend. (In the event that a sponsor is unable to attend the rehearsal a parent will need to step in and is responsible for relaying all information to the sponsor.) This rehearsal will include a reflection time for the Confirmandi and their sponsors as well as a catered lunch.
As your child prepares to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is important to note that Canon Law requires candidates to be in a state of grace, meaning they are in a right and loving relationship with God, free from serious (mortal) sin, so they may fully receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. For this reason, the Church strongly encourages receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) beforehand. We ask that you please make every effort for your child to attend Confession prior to the Confirmation retreat. Confessions are available following the 8:00am Mass (typically around 8:45am). This is a beautiful opportunity for your child to encounter God’s mercy and approach Confirmation with a heart that is open, prepared, and ready to receive His grace.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be conferred during the 10:45am Mass on Sunday, May 17th. All confirmandi will need to be at the parish no later than 9:30am. The Bishop will arrive early to speak with each youth seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation. It is very important that all confirmandi are at the parish dressed and ready to greet the Bishop when he arrives. Families will be asked to wait outside at the picnic tables or in their vehicles until the 9am Mass has concluded. Please be aware that pews will be reserved for the Confirmandi and their sponsors as well as Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion only. No pews will be reserved for families.
We ask that both sponsors and confirmandi dress in a way that reflects the reverence and dignity of this sacred occasion. Gentlemen are asked to wear dress slacks, a dress shirt, dress shoes, and a tie (a jacket is optional). Ladies should wear a modest dress that is at least knee-length, with shoulders covered and no cleavage showing. Please also be mindful that clothing is not overly tight. Thank you for helping to maintain a respectful and prayerful atmosphere as we celebrate this important sacrament.
For the Sacrament of Confirmation, we ask for your cooperation regarding photography so that the liturgy may remain prayerful and reverent. Only one photographer will be permitted to take photos during Confirmation, and we are pleased to have Shawn Craven of Imago Amor Photography serving in this role. Attached to this email you will find a letter with additional details about photography services, along with an order form should you wish to purchase photos. If you plan to have photos taken in the grotto, please arrive no later than 9:00am. At the conclusion of Mass, all of the newly confirmed will take a group photo with the Bishop, followed immediately by family photos with the Bishop (each family will be allowed one photo). Confirmandi will line up in the walkway according to the photo lineup order attached to this email, and names will be displayed on the screens—please pay close attention so your entire family is ready when your child’s name appears. When you see your child’s name, please have your full family meet them promptly in the walkway. After your family photo is taken, the newly confirmed will return their robes to the staging room and are then free to depart.
We also ask that all present maintain a spirit of reverence within the church. Please keep conversations to a minimum and in hushed tones, remembering that the church is a sacred place of prayer, not a marketplace.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping this celebration remain both joyful and prayerful.
In Christ,
Kelly Whitten
